Good to know: Sightings are never guaranteed – these are wild animals, not a show, and good operators say so. Look for tours that state how they keep their distance from the animals.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Sesimbra from Lisbon, and how do I get there?

It is roughly 46 km by road, about 40 minutes by car without traffic. By bus it takes around an hour and a half, and there is no direct ferry from Lisbon to Sesimbra. Check current timetables before you plan a day around them.

Will we really see dolphins?

Not guaranteed. These are wild animals, and no operator can promise a sighting. The Sado estuary nearby has a resident community of bottlenose dolphins, and the boats from Sesimbra also look for common dolphins along the Arrábida coast. Read what each booking page says about a repeat trip or a refund if nothing shows up.

What happens if the sea is too rough?

Kayak, speedboat and diving trips depend on wind and swell, and operators cancel or shorten them when conditions are poor. The cancellation and rebooking terms are on each booking page – read them before you pick a day, and keep a spare day in the schedule.

Can I reach the Arrábida beaches without a boat?

Some, yes. In recent summers the municipality of Setúbal has restricted car access on the stretch between Figueirinha and Creiro on busy days and run a free minibus; Galapinhos can only be reached on foot. The rules change from year to year, so check the current ones before you drive.

Do I need a car in Sesimbra?

For the town and its harbour, no. For the park, Cabo Espichel and the villages behind it, a car is the easiest way, though not the only one. Discover Cars has no Sesimbra page of its own; the closest one we found is Setúbal, so check pick-up points when you compare.

Why are there no tours from Lisbon on this site?

We list the tours that start in Sesimbra or inside the Arrábida Natural Park. Many day trips to the park start in Lisbon with a coach transfer, and they are a different product, with a different meeting point and a longer day.

Are the tours suitable for children?

Some are, some are not. There is a family-friendly boat tour with underwater views of about two hours, while coasteering and diving have their own requirements. Age limits are set by each operator and stated on the booking page – check it for the exact tour.
